I got up this morning and crawled out of bed,
with unspoken words loose in my head.

I languaged the cat who did not language back
but gave me a look I deciphered as love.

To my wife I languaged a word of affection, and
she languaged me back with a word of correction.

In the driveway I languaged my neighbor ‘good morning’
and picked up our newspaper languaging warning.

On the freeway I languaged the guy crowding my lane
and he languaged me back with a gesture profane,

At the office I languaged myself through the day,
and languaged the golfers as they drove off to play.

At home I languaged my son with a hug
and wrestled him wordless down on the rug.

Without all this languaging where would we be,
parallel ships on a thunderstruck sea.
