That’s what the steering wheel is for,
amending the car/road relationship.
The road is constant. The car is not.
Weaving, veering, drifting, etc.

For example,
the car too close to the yellow line,
or attempting a left-hand  turn in traffic,
or on a trip to the grocery store,
a child falling in the parking lot,
the advancing car swerves.
The driver’s swift modification saves the day.

The beach postponed.  Predictions of rain.
The birthday cake lost by overcorrection.
The husband behaving better.

Every move, extended, spells disaster.
Literally:        dis-aster.

And what of stars aloof in distant sublimity,
what will they do but what they do,
burn and shine, burn and shine?

They can’t do what we imagine they can.
Satisfy wishes. Good luck. Etc.
Wish they could.
Meeting human need is not the cosmic agenda.
When trouble arises, we readjust, or not.
The stars don’t.
