Squirrels worked their merry chases.
Now they are weary and out of sight.
Birds have silenced their songs.
Cricket drone surreptitiously.
Distant traffic.
A plane grinds its way through thickening night,
appearing and disappearing
as trees offer space between branches.
A hundred yards away my young neighbor
walks back and forth, back and forth
behind his solid five foot fence
as he retraces his steps.
Is he looking for something lost?
I see only his neck and head
but presume there is more to him than that.
The metaphysical temptation:
to imagine something unseen
more real than what we see..
Resist the temptation.
See what you see.
It is wonder enough!
