Now that I no longer believe in God,
it has become easier for me to pray.

I have no expectations of an answer
and therefore have no need
to  modulate my disappointments,
no need to let an impotent deity off the hook.

I am left with pure burning and nothing more,
neither the fulfillment of desire
or the desire for fulfillment.

Just the great ache that makes me human,
and as a human,
calls me speak to the invisible silence.
